REKS Introduces Four New Trivex Color-Boosting Sun Lenses

4

REKS, an innovative sunglass manufacturer featuring the finest in performance lenses matched with unbreakable frames, is pleased to introduce four new high performance Trivex color-boosting sun lenses. These Trivex lenses come with a built-in color equalizer that improves the contrast between colors making them seem brighter.

“Many of our customers have asked us to provide specific lenses for some of their most popular activities,” stated George Granoff CEO of REKS. “We listened to their feedback and are pleased to introduce four new Trivex Color-Boosting Sun Lenses, each with unique features to enhance your visual experience.”

  • GOLF lens features a rose amber tinted lens enhanced with a multi-layer silver mirror. Designed to have a lighter tint than a full sunglass lens, this golf performance lens allows more light into the eye resulting in a more precise visual experience. Whether looking down the fairway or reading the undulations of a green, this lens provides great optical clarity under a variety of sun conditions. The color-boosting lens technology improves contrast delivering brighter, more distinctive colors and includes anti-reflective and oleophobic coatings that reduce glare and help keep them free of smudges and dust. This lens has a light transmission of 30% designed for medium light conditions.
  • FISHING lens is a newly designed polarized lens that helps eliminate unwanted glare so important for fishermen or others on the beach, in the car or pursuing any outdoor activities where glare can be eliminated providing optimum clarity and color enhancement. This lens is designed for bright light, features a blue/gray tint, a sea green mirror and includes anti-reflective and oleophobic coatings to improve performance. The fishing lens has a light transmission of 13% designed for bright sun conditions.
  • BIKING lens features a photochromic lens that darkens in the sun and lightens in the shade. Perfect for bikers out for a long ride during mixed light conditions, this lens will adapt to changing light conditions providing a consistent high-quality visual experience. Under any light conditions, this photochromic lens will increase the contrast between colors making them seem brighter. This lens has anti-reflective and oleophobic coatings to improve performance. The biking lens will darken to a light transmission of 12% in full sun but will lighten to 47% in the shade.
  • SNOW lens helps distinguish between snow and ice. The built-in color equalizer increases the contrast between colors making them seem brighter and more distinct. This full sun lens provides exceptionable vision on sunny days. The anti-reflective coating on the back of the lens and oleophobic on both sides improves performance and helps provide smudge free performance. This blue/gray lens with a hint of violet features a blue/red plasma mirror that greatly enhances appearance. This full sun lens has a light transmission of 13% providing exceptionable vision on sunny days.

Every REKS optical frame is manufactured using an unbreakable polymer material and is paired with a shatter-resistant lens. These shatter-resistant lenses are manufactured using either polycarbonate or Trivex materials. Polycarbonate is the industry standard and REKS offers its polycarbonate polarized lens in any choice of frame for $50.  Trivex lenses are manufactured using optically clear polyurethane and are usually much more expensive than polycarbonate. Capitalizing on the benefits of being a direct to consumer customer company, REKS is the first to offer trivex sun lenses with color-boosting technology for only $75.

These Trivex lens designs are also available for prescription wearers starting at  $225.

All REKS eyewear carries a 30 day, no questions asked, money back guarantee.

In addition, all prescriptions lenses are covered by a 1-year scratch protection warranty and a 2-year warranty on the frame against breakage.

Mystic Dunes Gets Its Mojo Back

44

I recently visited the Mystic Dunes Golf Club in Kissimmee to check out all the improvements that have taken place since ClubCorp took over management of the golf course and restaurant. ClubCorp is the largest owner and operator of golf, country, social, athletic, city and alumni clubs in the country, and I can tell you from personal experience they do everything first class. During my earlier life, I was a ClubCorp member for many years until I retired.

So it was no surprise to see the miraculous transformation at Mystic Dunes Golf Club. A little history: The golf course is an original design of NBC TV Golf Announcer & Six-time TOUR winner Gary Koch that opened in 2001. It was part of the Mystic Dunes Resort timeshare complex, a lovely group of extraordinary amenities and spacious condos set in a 600 acre hilly parcel of land with easy access to Disneyworld. The golf course was commissioned to make Mystic Dunes unique from most of the other timeshare offerings in Central Florida and provide the members with an unprecedented amenity.

Gary took full advantage of the natural sand dunes and hilly terrain to layout a challenging one-of-a-kind 18 hole 7,012 yard, par 72 course from the back tees that sets itself apart from many of the flat parkland style courses throughout Florida. If you are student of course design, you will definitely see the influences of Architect great Alistair McKenzie. I was there the day the course opened, and after playing it, became enamored with its diversity of holes, challenging doglegs and blind shots. It was all I could handle with a 73.0/131 rating and slope from the back tees. Have no fear, there are five sets of tees so no matter your ability, you can enjoy your round of golf.

Mystic Dunes Golf Club was kept in great shape for years and was home to the Brian Gay Invitational, a charity event to benefit Florida Hospital for Children hosted by Diamond Resorts International, the parent company of Mystic Dunes. Then in 2015 course management fell into the hands of a local company that sucked the life and money from the course, leaving it neglected and barely playable.

Thank God for ClubCorp. In the short time they have taken over, the course is close to opening day conditions. The undulating greens, some with multiple tiers, have all been replaced and are as good as it gets. The many waste areas that border the fairways, and bunkers are all being maintained properly and cleared of weeds. The fairways and tee boxes are growing in nicely and are in good shape. The course was reversed from its original layout and flows comfortably throughout the property. We finished our round in less than four hours. I am sure Gary Koch would tell you today ‘Mystic Dunes is Better than Most.’

In addition to the course, Mystic Dunes has a large driving range right in back of the clubhouse with a short game practice are to the left and putting surface to the right. First impressions are important no matter what you are doing. The gentleman who took care of us at the bag drop was very friendly and directed us to the pro shop in the clubhouse and told us ‘you will be pleasantly surprised with the course.’  PGA professionals Kenny Cashwell and Corey McMasters, General Manager and Head Golf Pro respectively, are available for lessons and instruction at Mystic Dunes.

A visit to Mystic Dunes Resort & Golf Club should include enjoying the beautiful clubhouse. The large Pro Shop has a great selection of apparel and accessories for fashion minded players. The  bathrooms have showers for both men and women. Kenzie’s Restaurant and Lounge is very nicely appointed and the all-American menu is sure to please the palate of members, guests and golfers alike. It overlooks the practice facilities and has outdoor dining available. There is ample private space for weddings, banquets and full field tournaments. Diamond Resorts has had major events here that I have attended and the food, service and décor are just lovely.

Give Mystic Dunes another look. I guarantee you will find it in great shape. Call 407-787-5678 or contact MysticDunesGolf.com to make your reservations for golf or dining.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Named Presenting Sponsor Of The Mentor Cup

2

Tourney Founded By Kelly Tilghman Will Be A Qualifier For America’s No. 1 Charity Golf Event

Building on the success of its inaugural event, the Mentor Cup, which benefits the Gene’s Dream Foundation, has secured its first national sponsor, Liberty Mutual Insurance. As part of the agreement, the Mentor Cup presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance will be part of golf’s largest philanthropic event.

The Mentor Cup has been selected to host a qualifier for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational, the No. 1 charity event in golf. The nationwide series of tournaments raised $9 million for charity in 2017 and will be a springboard for the Mentor Cup, which held its first tournament on October 27 at the beautiful Tidewater Golf Club, part of a two-day event that featured a live performance by David Feherty.

The winner of the 2019 Mentor Cup will be invited to play in the Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational National Finals at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island.

“We are thrilled to be working with Liberty Mutual Insurance and its support is a validation of the hard work our team put in to make this event a reality,” said Tilghman, the driving force behind the creation of the Mentor Cup and the Gene’s Dream Foundation. “Our first Mentor Cup was a tremendous success, and joining the Liberty Mutual Insurance family will provide us with even more momentum as we begin work on the 2019 event.”

Tilghman founded the Mentor Cup and Gene’s Dream Foundation to honor the late Gene Weldon, a PGA pro who helped mentor countless kids during his nearly 50-year career along the Grand Strand.

The primary goal of the Gene’s Dream Foundation is to help improve the lives of children through golf. The foundation’s president, Wil Weldon, who is Gene’s son, has worked tirelessly to ensure the organization’s success in reaching children throughout the Grand Strand.

Zero Friction Success Continues On Pro Tours

1

The recent success on professional golf tours for Zero Friction, maker of high-quality, technologically advanced products for golfers worldwide, continued this past weekend at the PGA Tour Champions’ season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Arizona.

Zero Friction had two top-10 finishes by players using the company’s ZFT Maxx 3 Prong Tees, and a 13th-place finish from a player using the tees and theZero Friction glove.

The ZFT Maxx Tees are extra-large to make it easier and faster to set the ball on. The short Hybrid tees set up at the perfect height for irons, hybrids, and driving irons. ZFT Maxx system tees offer the same great design, distance and performance as the original 3 and 4-prong tees, with 66% reduced contact area for less resistance and more distance.

“We are thrilled that the world’s best players are enjoying success using our products,” said John Iacono, founder and President of Zero Friction. “Our multi-prong performance tees are what the company was founded on, and it is exciting to see tour players benefit from the performance of our tees in competition again.”

Two years ago Zero Friction launched a true breakthrough product, the GPS Distance Pro glove, which comes with a lightweight GPS device on the flap, providing accurate distances for over 35,000 golf courses worldwide.

This year the company introduced two new products that received rave reviews at the PGA Merchandise Show. The Cabretta Elite golf glove is an upgrade to the original Cabretta glove released three years ago. The Cabretta leather provides a solid grip in wet or humid weather. The reinforced Lycra throughout fingers, back of hand and palm allow for maximum strength, durability, and enhanced breathability.

Also new are the  Spectra™ matte finish distance golf balls. Matte finish golf balls are the hottest product in golf right now, as they are easier to see in the air and on the ground, so they speed up play and prevent lost balls. The 80 compression, 2 piece golf balls can add up to 10 additional yards and straighter shots due to less sidespin

Spectra matte finish distance golf balls are available in 4 ball sleeves, dozens, and blister packs with tees. They are also available as Supertubes, which include Zero Friction performance tees, a one-size compression fit glove, and Spectra golf balls. The Spectra golf balls are vailable in men’s, ladies’, and junior versions.

Boca Lago Country Club Renovation Earns Excellence Award

20

The newly unveiled golf course renovation at Boca Lago Country Club has won national honors in the 2018 American Society of Golf Course Architects Design Excellence Recognition Program.

Part of a comprehensive transformation of member amenities at Boca Lago, the $9 million golf course project positions the private club among the most desirable in Boca Raton.

Under the direction of Jan Bel Jan, ASGCA, Boca Lago’s modernization of the original 1975 design includes a routing reconfiguration that reduced the number of holes from 36 to 27. Bel Jan also designed a new practice complex featuring two short-game areas (each with its own practice putting green), two putting greens, two practice holes and expansion of the full swing space.

With on-site assistance from Boca Lago golf course superintendent George Redshaw, GCSAA, the redevelopment of the South, East, and West nines includes redesigned greens, repositioned bunkering in the fairways and around the greens, as well as reshaped and rearranged teeing grounds.

“We have touched nearly every inch of the playable areas of the golf course, updating the technology and playability,” said Bel Jan, who is the incoming president of the ASGCA. “Although the holes will be familiar, golfers will find them more fun, with different strategic challenges. It is remarkable how much the courses have changed just by updating them.”

Originally designed by golf architects Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge, the course also underwent infrastructure modernization: installation of a new irrigation and pump system; improved fairway drainage; and repair/removal of cart paths.

In addition, the clubhouse is being revitalized with upgraded and enlarged dining areas indoors and out, new gathering spaces and a new pool complex. At the tennis club, which features 20 courts(16 Har-Tru, 4 Hard), the clubhouse, pro shop and locker rooms have been fully refurbished and is home to the Rick Macci Tennis Academy.

For membership and additional information, visit BocaLago.com.

Now in its seventh year, the ASGCA annual awards program highlights the problem-solving skills required of today’s golf course designs, from new 18-hole layouts to renovations to new and updated practice facilities. Projects from 11 courses throughout the United States were cited this year following a review by a panel of golf industry leaders, including representatives of the Club Managers Association of America, Golf Course Builders Association of America, and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

GRAVITY GOLF SCHOOL Chooses Boca Lago Country Club

Famed instructor David Lee chooses the revitalized private country club for his Gravity Golf schools. Gravity Golf is a one-of-a-kind instruction program that relies on the golfer’s body mass, rather than muscular strength, to create an effortless swing that produces maximum efficiency and control. Founded by David, Gravity Golf works for players of all ages and skill levels, male and female, allowing them to enjoy much longer careers than those who damage their bodies by relying on improper technique. According to Lee, “players that properly partner with gravity, like Freddie Couples, use far less effort in their golf swings, and enjoy much better ball control.”

Three-day schools will begin in December and will be open to golfers from anywhere. In addition, the club will become the home for a unique Gravity Golf program called “Tour Express,” which will prepare eight recent college graduates-all athletes but non-golfers-to be competitive in a short period of time, with the vision of becoming professional golfers. The eight who are selected will train and work out at the club alongside Gravity Golf’s other students.

Interested golfers will be able to attend daily informational sessions at the Country Club to learn more about the Gravity Golf philosophy, which focuses on all parts of the game; full swing, short game, and what causes and fixes the ‘yips’ in putting, chipping and pitching. Individualized instruction will be available for Boca Lago members.

Both the school and Tour Express students will benefit from the new practice facilities designed by architect Jan Bel Jan.

Wilson Golf’s DRIVER vs DRIVER2 Winner Chosen

2

Evan Hoffman from San Diego, California and his ‘CORTEX’ Driver have been chosen the winner of Wilson Golf’s DRIVER vs DRIVER2 Competition, a year and a half after submitting his initial application and driver design idea. Hoffman takes home the $250,000 grand prize and his design becomes Wilson’s newest driver on the market. The ‘CORTEX’ driver is officially on sale at more than 1,000 golf retail stores around the world and online at Wilson.com/Cortex.

“I was confident, but still you can’t prepare yourself for something like this,” Hoffman said after being announced as the winner. “So many emotions going on, the main one being shock. This has been an experience of a lifetime and a dream come true.”

Tim Slama from Salem, Oregon and his Rozwell design driver finished runner-up on Driver vs. Driver2. Tim Clarke, President of Wilson Golf, surprised Tim when he announced at the conclusion of the finale that Wilson Golf will pay for his final year of college at Oregon State University. “It was a gold lining in the clouds,” said Slama after the show. “This really echoes what Wilson has been the entire show, which has been true to themselves. They have been so honest, so generous and so amazing to everyone on this show, especially me.”

“I am so proud of the team I work with at Wilson.” said Tim Clarke. “Not only did this team deliver products that are amazing in working with both designers, but also the reality is we got a driver that tested better than any driver Wilson has ever produced.”

“It was very close between the final two designs and a very tough decision to make,” said nine-time NHL ALL STAR Jeremy Roenick, one of the three judges on the show. “I teetered between the two, but I think we made the right decision and the best driver won with Evan’s CORTEX.”

“To be a part of the process and seeing what hard work and effort goes on behind the scenes has been amazing,” said Rick Shiels, golf equipment reviewer and a judge on the series. “I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

The finale took place at Wilson Sporting Goods’ worldwide headquarters in Chicago. During the finale, PGA TOUR Professionals and Wilson Brand Ambassadors Troy Merritt, Brendan Steele and Kevin Streelman tested the two finished prototypes and provided their feedback. The judges on the show- Clarke, Roenick and Shiels- also hit the driver prototypes before ultimately making their decision in announcing Hoffman as the winner.

Wilson CORTEX Driver:

At the heart of the CORTEX Driver is Fast Cage Technology. 44% of the head has been replaced with lightweight carbon fiber, leaving a rigid titanium skeleton that provides structural stability, and more precise weight distribution for adjustability, maximizing distance and optimizing spin for all swings.

Production for Driver versus Driver2 began in Fall of 2017 and concluded in August, 2018. The series was produced by Golf Channel’s original productions division which produces high quality instruction shows including School of Golf, Golf Channel Academy, Playing Lessons and Feherty and a slate of award-winning and critically acclaimed Golf Films.

Driver vs Driver presented by Wilson debuted in 2016. The show, from inception, was designed to utilize the power of crowd-sourcing combined with Wilson LABS(the innovation hub at Wilson) deep golf experience and expertise to create a world-class golf driver in a way that had never been done before. It also was created to infuse new energy and excitement into the golf equipment conversation, open the game of golf to a broader audience and bring highly innovative products to the marketplace, all while educating golfers on how drivers are designed, developed and manufactured.
