Bayer Providing Superintendent Grants to Hurricane Effected Courses

For more than a decade, the Bayer Superintendent Grant Program has offered members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America(GCSAA) the opportunity to attend the annual Golf Industry Show. For 2019, the show will be in San Diego, and for the second year in a row, Bayer is doubling its support and sending five additional superintendents- all from areas affected by Hurricane Florence and Michael.

The winners of the Bayer Superintendent Grants for Hurricane affected areas include:

  • Steven Martin, CGCS, super at Rivers Edge/Brick Landing Plantations in Shallotte, N.C.
  • Steven Neuliep,CGCS, super at Etowah Valley Golf Resort in Etowah, N.C.
  • Roy Rowland, super at Lake Wales Country Club, Florida.
  • Preston Stephenson, super at Misty Creek Golf and C.C., Sarasota, Fl.
  • Bryon Taylor, super at Crescent Pointe Golf Club/Eagles Point Golf Club, Bluffton, S.C.

The winners’ trips are funded by the Bayer Superintendent Grant Program, offered since 2004 through Bayer Environmental Science, a unit of Bayer CropScience Inc. The grants are awarded by the Environmental Institute for Golf(EIfG), the philanthropic organization of GCSAA. The program will underwrite the total cost for the superintendents to attend the Golf Industry Show February 2-7, 2019. The winners will receive airfare, hotel accommodations for five nights, full conference registration, registration for two education seminars and $200 spending money. Normally, winners are chosen from a drawing of all applicants who have not attended the show in the past two years, however the attendance rule is waived for hurricane victims.

“The devastation left in the wake of these hurricanes is heartbreaking, so we are extending our offer of additional grants, as a way the Bayer Superintendent Grant program can give back to those who have been impacted,” said Mike Hirvela, Customer Marketing Manager, Golf.
