Rumbling Bald Opens Real Estate Services Office

Rumbling Bald has opened a new real estate office to manage sales of new and existing residential properties at the 36-hole mountain golf community on Lake Lure, one hour east of Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Across more than 3,000 acres, Rumbling Bald is recognized as the ultimate second home and retirement escape for Carolinians and active lifestylists up and down the East Coast.

There are 65 vacant lots for sale at a wide range of prices, location-dependent, starting at $200 per square foot.  Rumbling Bald enjoys close relationships with five custom home builders.  Condos with two and three bedrooms are roughly $350,000.  More than 30 homes are for resale.

In addition to its proximity to Ashville, Rumbling Bald is roughly 45 minutes from Spartanburg, S.C., and less than two hours from Charlotte.  Nearly 1,100 single-family homes and 200 condos comprise a solid foundation for residents to build long-lasting relationships with like-minded people.

“Switching from an independent agency to becoming our own broker-in-charge is a natural evolution of our growing business and tight-knit community,” says Mike Zerressen, who leads the new Rumbling Bald Real Estate Services.  “We boast a social environment, a host of recreational activities, safety and a respite from hustle-and-bustle lives in metropolitan areas.”

Zerressen enjoys unparalleled knowledge of the Rumbling Bald community through success leading its lodging component and three decades of real estate leadership in western North Carolina.

The time is right for Rumbling Bald Real Estate Services as the nation’s top economists predict America has escaped a pending recession, and the convergence of the COVID era and technology has more people than ever working from wherever they want.

Those considering homes at Rumbling Bald often stay on property at the Apple Valley Studios, two-bedroom Fairway Villas and luxury vacation homes.

Three Branson Missouri Ozarks Courses Garner Golf Digest “Best in State” Honors

Golf Digest ranks Ozarks National, Payne’s Valley, and Buffalo Ridge among the top 10 in its list of “America’s Greatest Courses by State, 2023-24.”

All three are amenities of Big Cedar Lodge, the sprawling luxury wilderness resort in the Branson Ozarks.  This marks the debut of Payne’s Valley (Tiger Woods design) on the exclusive list.

To determine its “America’s Greatest” rankings of Missouri courses, Golf Digest panelists play and score courses on these eight criteria: shot options, challenge, layout variety, distinctiveness, aesthetics, conditioning, character, and fun.

Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and Tom Fazio with Johnny Morris, respectively, Ozarks National and Buffalo Ridge join Payne’s Valley at the heart of the burgeoning 10-course-and-growing Branson golf destination.

An 11th course named Cliffhangers is under construction adjacent to Payne’s Valley.

“We love it when our courses win awards from Golf Digest – their third-party critical endorsements provide ideal credibility,” said Lynn Berry, Explore Branson, Director of Communications.

These aren’t the first top rankings for those courses or others in the destination. Branson Hills, Ledgestone, Mountain Top, Thousand Hills, Top of the Rock, The Pointe, and Holiday Hills join them in having accumulated numerous “best-in-kind” accolades collectively.

Golfers From 50 States 17 Countries Prepare to Descend on Myrtle Beach for the 40th Annual World Amateur Handicap Championship

Golf’s premier recreational amateur tournament is preparing to celebrate a milestone anniversary, and 3,260 players from all 50 states and 17 countries are descending on Myrtle Beach for an event that is equal parts competition and camaraderie.

The 40th annual PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship, a 72-hole, net stroke play event, will be played August 28 through September 1 along Myrtle Beach’s Grand Strand.

The inaugural World Am was played in hopes of filling what had been a slow week in Myrtle Beach’s tourism calendar in 1984, and from those humble origins, the tournament has grown into an international event. From hurricanes and power outages to giving away golf course condos and Paula Morton holing out from 70 yards to claim the mantle of World Champion, the World Am has seen a little bit of everything over the years.

“The PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap is a one-of-a-kind event, and we are looking forward to celebrating Year 40,” tournament director Scott Tomasello said. “This event is always a celebration of the game and the people who love it, which will certainly be the case this year. More than 3,200 golfers from across the globe are coming to Myrtle Beach, and we look forward to providing an unforgettable experience on and off the course.”

The World Am, which has been called the “Every Man’s Major,” allows regular golfers, who are flighted by age, gender and handicap, the rare opportunity to compete over 72 holes, with flight winners advancing to the World Championship Playoff at the Grande Dunes Resort Course.

Highlighting the World Am’s broad appeal, there are players as old as 90 and as young as 16 registered for the 2023 tournament, while Portugal and Canada lead the nations sending international participants. The average handicap for tournament players is 11.8, and 50 of Myrtle Beach’s best courses will host the tournament.

The World Am flights players into 11 divisions – men 49 and under, senior men (50-59), mid-senior men (60-69), super senior men (70-79), seasoned seniors (80+), women (59 and under), senior women (60+), the gross division, senior (50+) gross division, mid-senior (60+) gross division and women’s gross division. There is also a “Just For Fun” flight, created for players who want to enjoy the World Am experience without the pressure of competition.

After four days of tournament play, all flight winners will compete for the right to be crowned “World Champion” at the Grande Dunes Resort Course on Friday, September 1.

While the competition initially lures players to the tournament, it’s only part of what keeps them coming back. At the heart of the World Am’s appeal is the camaraderie among its participants, and much of that kinship is fostered at the World’s Largest 19th Hole.

Each night of the event, the 19th Hole takes over all 120,000 square feet of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, providing participants with free food and drinks, live entertainment, celebrity guest appearances, a golf expo, and more. Among the big names that have appeared at the 19th Hole in recent years are David Feherty, Brandel Chamblee, Charlie Rymer, and John Daly.

Players also receive a gift bag that includes a polo, pullover, golf towel, logo’d hat, PGA Tour Superstore gift card and an assortment of other goodies valued cumulatively at $250.

The Peaches along the Georgia Golf Trail

Of the 20+ golf courses on the Georgia Golf Trail, nine of them are tucked away in nine of Georgia’s state parks.  While some of these golf courses may be off the beaten path, so to speak, they are worth making the effort to go play.

“Our state park golf courses in Georgia are terrific golf destinations.  They are incredible designs which are very well maintained and fairly priced,” said Doug Hollandsworth, Founder, Georgia Golf Trail.  “The affiliation of these golf courses with amenity filled state parks makes them a perfect place to visit, especially with your families.”

HIGHLAND WALK – There are many scenic selfie ‘hot spots’ at Highland Walk Golf Course (706-245-6770) at Victoria Bryant State Park in Royston.  At Highland Walk, there are many uphill and downhill tee shots.  The best photo ‘opp’ locale is the tee box of the signature hole — the 17th.

Arrowhead-Pointe-Golf-Club
Arrowhead Pointe Golf Club overlooking Lake Russell

ARROWHEAD POINTE – At the Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course (706-283-6000) in Elberton, visiting golfers will discover a 6,800-yard course situated on a peninsula within the Richard B. Russell State Park.  Arrowhead Pointe deserves to be called the ‘Crown Jewel’ of the Georgia Golf Trail.  Here, 10 of the 18 holes border Lake Richard B. Russell.

THE CREEK – The Creek Golf Course (706-557-3006) at Hard Labor Creek State Park in Social Circle is a joy to play.  Here, the sternest test is the tee shot on the par-four 10th hole, formerly the opening hole, which used to be considered “the hardest first starting hole in Georgia.”

BRAZELL’S CREEK – The Brazell’s Creek Golf Course (912-577-7745) at Jack Hill State Park in Reidsville is a well-designed par-71 layout.  At Brazell’s Creek, a 1,500-yard winding bridge through a canopy of trees connects the front nine with the back nine. The back nine was built on a windswept, open landscape with a links-style look.  The front nine is tree-lined, and the greens have some creative contours.

THE LAKES – The Lakes Golf Course (912-285-6154) at Laura S. Walker Park in Waycross is the southernmost golf course on the Georgia Golf Trail.  It features large, undulating greens. The fairways and landing areas are defined with gentle, links-style mounds that accent the course’s three large lakes.  Loblolly pines are a common sight at the Lakes GC, which is an easy course to walk.

MEADOW LINKS – The Meadow Links Golf Course (229-768-3714) opened in the George T. Bagby State Park in Fort Gaines in 1998.  Golf Digest ranked Meadow Links as “the nation’s sixth-best new affordable public course.”  Each day, when the sun sets in the west, the views resemble a picture postcard.

WALLACE ADAMS – Once you arrive at the Wallace Adams Golf Course (229-868-7474), located in the Little Ocmulgee State Park outside McRae, you’ll quickly see that you’ll want to play this course more than you had originally intended.  This golf course has an Augusta National Golf Club look and feel to it.  And it’s true.  The only things missing are patrons, leaderboards, and cameras from CBS.  This golf course is nicknamed ‘Little O.’  You will enjoy the chance of going low at Little O!

GEORGIA VETERANS – The Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Course (800-459-1230), located at the Lake Blackshear Resort and Golf Course near Cordele, has been labeled the “best value in the South.”  Once you walk off the 18th green, head to the Cypress Grill.  You can relive your experiences on the “best value in the South.”

Finn Teams Up with EAGL to Simplify Rental

1

Finn, the electric golf cycle that’s adding fun and speeding up the pace of play, has teamed up with EAGL software to simplify the rental process. The EAGL technology makes the cycles keyless, offers a seamless in-app payment solution, and allows live booking and fleet monitoring. All new Finn Cycles are being equipped with EAGL technology, and the existing Finn Cycles in rental fleets at over 160 golf courses across the country are transitioning to the new app. To find a Finn for rental near you or buy one yourself, go to FinnScooters.com.

Developed by Rick Reimers, founder of the long-pioneering golf equipment company Sun Mountain Sports, Finn Cycle is a two-wheeled, single-rider golf cycle with an electric motor that offers a comfortable and stable ride that leaves all who use it smiling.

“The inspiration for Finn is the desire to bring some fun to the game while speeding up the pace of play,” said Rick Reimers. “This new EAGL app brings that same mission of ease and speed to the rental process, benefiting the pro shop and the golfer.”

Kai Stiberg of EAGL Technology mentioned, “We’ve been fortunate to witness growth in the Scandinavian golf technology sector. Now, with Finn Scooters by our side, we are eager to share our solutions with the US market.”

With the EAGL app, golfers can conveniently check the availability of scooters and make advance bookings at participating golf courses. For the golf course, the EAGL app efficiently provides live booking and payment solutions and real-time fleet monitoring on a map. This technology can also be expanded to the courses’ traditional two-person golf cart rental fleet. The EAGL app is free in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Finn Cycle offers an exhilarating ride with easy golf club access and riding stability, with the golf bag sitting along the center line of the cycle. Finn Cycle has front and rear suspension for a comfortable ride and braking with hand-operated disc brakes. The electric motor is in the rear wheel, offering a sleek design. The lithium battery can reach 36 holes on a single charge, though charging after every round is suggested.

Finn travels at the same speed as a traditional golf cart, approximately 15 mph, and offers the opportunity to substantially speed up the pace of play by naturally encouraging ready golf with each player driving directly to their ball.

Finn offers several acquisition options for golf courses, including lease plus revenue share, direct purchase, and fleet financing. Finn is also available for individual purchase and personal use with prices from $3,499.

Reimers has a well-deserved reputation for creating innovative golf products that become industry mainstays, such as the golf bag with built-in legs and the golf push cart. Is Finn Cycle the next innovation from Reimers that’ll evolve from a head-turner to the accepted standard? History is on his side.

Finn Scooters is dedicated to solving golf’s biggest problem: slow play. The company’s products are designed to increase the pace of play and fun. The company’s first offering is a single-rider, two-wheeled cart called Finn Cycle. For more information, visit FinnScooters.com.

2023 Simpson Cup

U.S. Team Finalized for On Course Foundation’s 2023 Simpson Cup at Royal Lytham & St. Annes

The U.S. team of wounded veterans to compete in On Course Foundation’s 2023 Simpson Cup, September 24-27 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in England is finalized.

The 13 qualifying U.S. players are here, ranging in age from 29 to 58 across eight states coast to coast and include four rookies, five amputees and handicaps from .7 to 18.  Marty Caraway, a former Marine, is team captain for the second consecutive Simpson Cup.  Service members of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines are represented.

The four-day event features two days of Ryder Cup-style matches between 13 golfers per team.  The first day’s battle is better-ball match play with six points at stake and the second showcases 13 singles, straight match play with 13 points at stake.  The first team to reach 10 points wins the Simpson Cup.  The competition is flanked by emotional opening and closing ceremonies a la the Ryder Cup and Olympics.

“We’re coming for this cup and have the dynamics, personalities and work ethic that meld well,” says Caraway.  “That said, while winning the Simpson Cup is fun, it’s superseded by On Course Foundation helping wounded veterans gain incredible purpose, experiences, mental and physical wellness, friendships, golf jobs and memories.”

simpson_cup

Entering this year’s 11th Simpson Cup, the U.S. won five matches and the U.K. five.  Host site Royal Lytham & St. Annes has produced 11 Open Championships and five Women’s British Opens.  Past Simpson Cup venues include TPC Sawgrass, Congressional, Royal St. George’s, Oak Hill, Royal Birkdale, Maidstone, St. Andrews, The Creek and Baltusrol.

Team members’ hidden and physical wounds sustained from the heat of battle include PTSD, brain tumors, amputations, emphysema, traumatic brain injuries, joint raptures, spinal issues and broken backs, hips, ribs, collarbones, femurs and sternums.

Some U.S. team player highlights:

  • Chad Pfeifer, 42, is an army veteran who persevered to overcome the loss of his left leg above the knee to become a scratch golfer.  He finished third in the 2022 U.S. Adaptive Open and first among competitors with physical impairments.
  • Shauna Snyder, 57, is the team’s only female and 2023 marks the third time she qualified for a Simpson Cup.  She overcame complex back, neck, shoulder and hip injuries from decades in the U.S. Army Medical Department.
  • Nick Kimmel, 34, is among the miraculous Simpson Cup stories.  An IED explosion in Afghanistan left him without both legs above knee and his left arm above the elbow.  A golfer as a youth, the triple-amputee was “tortured” about the notion of never playing again.

“The desire wasn’t there, and the primary thought was that missing limbs would cause me to sit on the sidelines forever,” says Kimmel.  “Then I learned about On Course Foundation and since joining, members prompted me not to feel sorry for myself, overcome the physical and psychological pain by thinking positively, and get back into the swing of things.

The Simpson Cup is named after On Course Foundation founder John Simpson, the longtime business manager for Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh, Bernard Langer, Nick Price and other Tour players.  As a child, he was stricken with polio that to this day renders his left leg nonfunctional.  Simpson’s disability, and his speaking with injured veterans at Headley Court in the U.K. in 2010, led him to marry golf and goodwill, ultimately creating On Course Foundation.

“It’s amazing to see those who sacrificed so much and still undergo severe PTSD and physical challenges, compete at such a high level,” says Simpson.  “This is pinnacle event on our program calendar and a major mechanism for On Course Foundation to raise awareness and funds.”

Simpson Cup sponsors include Charles Schwab, Barclays, Topgolf Callaway Brands, The Sinclair Charity and the Summit Golf Brands.
On Course Foundation helps active and retired, injured Service members develop playing abilities while teaching career skills to work in the golf industry.  It then places them in jobs with the likes of Dormie Network, Golf Pride, Invited, Landscapes Unlimited, Marriott Golf, TaylorMade Golf, Topgolf Callaway Brands, TPC Network and Troon, as well as at golf courses, country clubs and resorts nationwide.  More than 2,200 wounded veterans have benefitted from On Course Foundation learning programs in the U.S. and Europe since 2010.

“I had the privilege of recruiting new student-athletes and sharing my knowledge and love for the game with them,” added Jamie. “Growing the game is a passion of mine, so being able to work alongside Crystal Mountain’s award-winning golf school team is invigorating.”

As Director of Golf, Davison will lead most golf operations. Greg Babinec will remain the head golf professional, Brandon Dean will be the assistant golf professional, and Trevor Mills will be the golf course superintendent.

“His addition to the team makes me even more excited for the future of golf and golf instruction at Crystal Mountain,” added Leonard.
