Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company Debuts Ft. Worth WHITE Irons

5

New Model Joins the Popular Ft. Worth BLACK Irons;
Nickel-Chrome Clubhead Finish Irons Now Available

Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company (BHGEC) has introduced Ft. Worth WHITE Irons, a complimentary line of custom, hand-crafted forged irons that answer widespread golfer demand for a traditional nickel-chrome clubhead finish in their blade-style iron model.

The new irons join the popular Ft. Worth BLACK irons, one of Ben Hogan Golf’s most successful product lines, which feature a unique Diamond Black Metal (DBM) finish. The new ‘white’ irons are available for purchase immediately without retail mark-up thanks to BHG’s proven direct-to-consumer sales and distribution model that offers unprecedented pricing for high-performance, custom-made forged irons.

“The Ft. Worth White Irons are illustrative of how Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company interacts with and listens to its customers,” said Scott White, President and CEO, Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company.  “On the heels of our sales success with the Ft. Worth Black Irons,  we found many ‘traditionalists’ who wanted to play this iron design with the standard nickel-chrome finish, so we accommodated them with this launch.”

White adds, “As with the Ft. Worth BLACK irons, the WHITE irons will be custom-built clubs to individual golfer’s specifications. But, most importantly, unlike other brands who launch a product that is not readily available, our exclusive factory-direct business model allows us to put these irons in the hands of golfers immediately and at hundreds of dollars less than they would pay for competitive products through green-grass and retail channels.”

The Ft. Worth White Irons feature a traditional forged blade design that is engineered for serious, accomplished players seeking a rare blend of feel, consistency, accuracy and forgiveness. Extensive player and machine testing validate that the irons generate a more penetrating ball flight on scoring irons, higher initial launch angles on long irons and better distance control on off-center hits, when compared with competitive irons. This is a direct result of dual Dynamic Progressive Weighting and Adaptive Perimeter Weighting Systems, which allow Ben Hogan engineers to optimize the size, shape and depth of the unique ‘depression cavity’ on the rear of each club head.

The new Ft. Worth White Irons also feature proprietary enhanced V-Sole® Technology, which is the most versatile sole in golf and has long been a trademark of Ben Hogan irons and wedges. It combines a high bounce leading edge and low bounce trailing edge on the sole and allows for easy manipulation of the club head no matter the lie and without changing the loft. The bounce angles on the Ft. Worth White Irons have been re-engineered slightly on each club head to eliminate ‘grab’ by the turf, especially on less-than-full shots.

Further, the Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company’s signature PreciseLoft® System has been simplified in the Ft. Worth WHITE Irons. While the Company remains committed to consistent 4-degree loft gaps between each iron for optimal distance gapping and to minimize loft ‘compression’ at the short end of the set, the Ft. Worth WHITE Irons will only be offered in one loft matrix. The mid-high launch profile (22 to 46-degrees) is preferred by the vast majority of Ben Hogan iron players.  Ft. Worth White Irons will be stamped with traditional numbers (#4 – PW) on the sole.

As with all Ben Hogan irons, the Ft. Worth WHITE Irons can be customized at no charge and golfers can specify length, lie, loft and grips (standard or mid-sized) as well as their choice of a variety of steel and graphite shafts.

The Ft. Worth White Irons are available for purchase at www.BenHoganGolf.com exclusively. True to the company’s innovative Factory-Direct distribution and pricing strategy, they are sold direct-to-consumers for $700.00 per seven-piece set (#4 iron – Pitching Wedge). Moreover, the Company offers a Trade-UP program where golfers can offset the cost of their purchase by selling used equipment back to the Company.

Three-Year Agreement Will Bring Popular Box Subscription Service to Golf’s Fastest Growing Tournament

Short Par 4, a golf inspired box subscription service that ships hand curated, top quality, branded golf apparel, footwear and accessories directly to golfers, has reached a three-year agreement with Golf Tourism Solutions to be the title sponsor of the Fall Classic, the game’s fastest growing tournament.

As part of the sponsorship, the Myrtle Beach-based event will now be named the Short Par 4 Fall Classic. The fifth annual event will be played November 11-15 on Sixteen of Myrtle Beach’s best courses. A 72-hole, two-person team event, the Fall Classic initially planned to cap the field at 360 players but due to demand expanded to 432. Even with the increased field size, the tournament has been sold out for more than a month.

As part of its sponsorship, Short Par 4 will provide Fall Classic players with custom branded apparel, including a Greg Norman pullover.

“Short Par 4, which delivers great quality and value, is an ideal partner for the Fall Classic,” Tournament Director Scott Tomasello said. “The Fall Classic appeals to golfers who enjoy the best the game has to offer and it has been growing in popularity, much like Short Par 4. This is a partnership between a brand and an event that are on the rise, and it will be beneficial to both parties and our golfers.”

Teams will be flighted based on their USGA handicaps and there will be a different format of play each day. The tournament formats will be best ball, Texas scramble, modified alternate shot and a scramble, but the golf course lineup and entry fee of $375 have been the driving forces behind the event’s rapid growth.

The courses hosting the four-round event are the Dye and Fazio courses at Barefoot Resort, Farmstead Golf Links, Glen Dornoch, Heritage Club, Leopard’s Chase, Long Bay, Pawleys Plantation, Pine Lakes, Prestwick Country Club, Rivers Edge, Thistle, TPC Myrtle Beach, Tradition, True Blue and World Tour.

Tournament festivities will begin with a welcome reception at House of Blues on November 11, an event that will feature free hor d’oeuvres and two free drinks for each person. After four rounds of golf, the event will conclude with an awards dinner at the House of Blues that will includes a buffet dinner, two free drinks per person and live entertainment.

Peggy Kirk Bell, United States – Lifetime Achievement Category
Margaret Anne “Peggy” Kirk Bell took up the game as a teenager, making a name for herself as an amateur star. She went on to become a charter member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association in 1950 after winning the 1949 Titleholders Championship and participating on the winning 1950 Curtis Cup team. She received the PGA of America’s First Lady of Golf Award in 2007 and was an avid supporter of the game as a top 100 golf instructor, becoming the first woman selected into Golf Magazine’s World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame.

Retief Goosen, South Africa – Male Competitor Category
Known affectionately as “The Goose,” Retief Goosen sat within the Official World Golf Ranking’s top 10 for more than 250 weeks from 2001 through 2007. His 33 worldwide wins include two U.S. Open Championships in 2001 – the same year he was named European Tour Player of the Year – and 2004. Goosen led the European Tour Order of Merit in 2001 and 2002. He also played in six consecutive Presidents Cups from 2000 to 2011 as part of the International Team.

Named the GWAA’s William D. Richardson Award recipient, Payne also received the Olympic Order after serving as president and CEO of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games from 1992 to ‘96. Continuing his legacy and involvement with the Olympics, Payne was a key figure in the successful return of golf to the 2016 Games.

Her impact on the game extends outside of her play as one of the founders of the Women’s Senior Golf Tour. She is involved with golf course design and has made many charitable contributions including being an honorary chair of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Stephenson was also honored with the Order of Australia Medal in 2018 for her contributions to the game of golf.

Walters was also honored with the 1978 Ben Hogan Award and was a 2018 recipient of the USGA’s Bob Jones Award.

These five Inductees will bring the total number of World Golf Hall of Fame Members to 160.

“The 2019 Induction Class is one of the most well-rounded groups we’ve had to date,” said Jack Peter, President of the World Golf Hall of Fame. “We are excited to begin working with them as we gear up for the Induction Ceremony in Pebble Beach this June.”

The Class of 2019 was elected by the Hall of Fame’s Selection Commission, which debated a group of 15 finalists. The Inductees each passed the required 75 percent voting threshold – approval by at least 12 of the 16 members.

The Selection Commission was Co-Chaired by Hall of Fame Members Nancy Lopez, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam and included the members of the World Golf Foundation Board of Directors and a mix of institutional and at-large seats.

Mizuno Unveils Stunning New JPX919 Irons

4

Mizuno, the global leader in golf equipment renowned for its expertise in irons, has unveiled the next evolution of JPX-the JPX919 Series. Highly engineered, the JPX919 Series of irons are designed to deliver exceptional performance for all types of golf swings.

Founded in Osaka, Japan in 1906, Mizuno has long held enviable industry- and tour-wide reputation for crafting the very finest irons in the game, offering golfers the ultimate blend of looks, feel and workability. The JPX900 Series irons lead a resurgence for Mizuno, with the Tour model boasting three of the last seven titles to its name. Kevin Tway, the first time winner at the first tournament of the new PGA year, the Safeway Open, played JPX919 irons.

The new JPX919 family comprises Tour, Hot Metal, and Forged models, each engineered from different base materials to help enhance performance for particular swing types. The JPX919 Tour is forged from 1025E Pure Select Mild Carbon steel; the JPX919 Hot Metal is crafted from high-strength Chromoly 4140M; and the JPX919 Forged is Grain Flow Forged from Boron-infused steel.

Despite their design differences, all three irons are unmistakably Mizuno in profile and sensation through impact.

The JPX919 Tour promises tour-caliber performance with precision distance control. It is a more compact, streamlined evolution of Mizuno’s standout JPX900 Tour iron from 2017/2018, which helped to re-establish Mizuno as the iron of choice on Tour among both contracted and non-contracted players. Grain Flow Forged HD(High Density) from a single billet of 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel in Hiroshima, Japan, the JPX919 Tour offers the softest, purest Mizuno feel yet.

The JPX919 Tour has that compact, lean look over the ball that elite shotmakers crave, with the top edge narrowed by 10% compared to its predecessor to match the grinds most commonly requested on tour. Despite this, it offers surprising stability for a compact players’ iron, delivering tight distance patterns on off-center strikes courtesy of a frame that is open at the heel portion to enhance stability and launch, while still producing a tour-preferred vibration and sound at impact.

“The JPX919 Tour’s compact profile doesn’t tell the whole story,” says Jeff Cook, Mizuno’s PGA Tour Manager. “There’s a surprising level of stability and distance control built into this geometry. Its predecessor attracted a new wave of younger tour players into Mizuno irons and made a big impact by winning back to back US Opens, a PGA Championship, and recording a course record 61 at St. Andrews.”

It features a Pearl Brush chrome-plated finish to enhance durability and soften its precise lines in bright sunlight and can be built to a customer’s desired specification as part of a full, split or short set.

Availability: 3-PW/ RH only.

The JPX919 Hot Metal provides a benchmark in iron design, engineered for the perfect blend of ball speed and soft, controllable landing angles. The Chromoly has paved the way to a new multi-thickness face that promotes astonishing ball speeds, while seamless one-piece cup face construction ensures surprising levels of feedback even at such unprecedented ball speeds.

It shares the Tour’s new frame, which is open at the heel portion to enhance stability, launch, and a loft- appropriate flight apex for controlled, soft-landing approaches. Re-engineered Sound Ribs have been developed to hit specific vibration patterns that ensure a satisfying sensation through impact, with the  JPX919 Hot Metal featuring the same Pearl Brush finish as the Tour.

The Hot Metal offers a steeper transition into more compact scoring irons and wedges, with set-matching gap, sand and lob wedges available, engineered from a softer X30 steel and blessed with precision-milled grooves and faces for improved spin and control around the greens.

“The most impressive thing about the JPX919 Hot Metal is the launch control and flight apex,” says Chris Voshall, Senior Engineer at Mizuno. “The extra ball speed and distance doesn’t come from low-flying bullets- we work the design backwards from the correct landing angles. These are irons for the golf course, not just the launch monitor!”

Availability: 4-LW/ R & L Hand

A new reverse-milled clubface, CNC-milled from the sole up to create a larger area of minimum face thickness, makes the streamlined JPX919 Forged Mizuno’s fastest ever one piece forged iron in terms of measured ball speed. The resulting weight removed from the face also allows a lower, deeper center of gravity making it easier to flight the long and mid-irons. Mizuno’s trademark workability and elevated  Grain Flow Forged HD(High Density) feedback ensure that the JPX919 Forged is also Mizuno’s most versatile iron.

Like the Tour and Hot Metal the Forged features the same finish and stability frame, open at the heel portion to enhance stability, launch and loft appropriate flight apex for soft-landing approaches. It is Grain Flow Forged HD from a single billet of 1025B mild carbon steel in Hiroshima, Japan for unmistakable Mizuno feel, with just a trace of Boron infused into the billet to make it 30% stronger and allow greater design possibilities in a forged head. The overall package is one of “balanced performance” with the JPX919 Forged offering the ultimate blend of ball speed, stability and feedback within a more refined playing profile.

“A deeper, wider milling across the back of the face allows the JPX919 Forged to transfer more energy  to the ball than any previous Grain Flow Forged iron,” says David Llewellyn, Director of Golf R&D at Mizuno. “None of that would have been possible without that small addition of Boron into our steel billets, which gives the additional strength needed to reinforce the face.”

Availability: 4-GW/ R&L Hand.

All JPX919 irons will be available through the Mizuno Perfomance Fitting System, which features Swing DNA software and offers one of the widest selections of no upcharge shafts and grips in the industry.

Mizuno has strived to “create the best products for consumers” for 112 years and the entire JPX919 iron family adheres firmly to that original spirit and desire, while offering the best performance benefits that modern technology can bring.  #NothingFeelsLikeaMizuno!

Introducing Vokey WedgeWorks Limited Edition 60º T Grind in Ultra-Premium Slate Blue Finish

1

The Vokey WedgeWorks Limited 60°T Grind comes directly from Bob Vokey’s early days on tour and remains just as relevant today. This low bounce wedge was incredibly popular at this summer’s Open Championship, due to the firm fast conditions players faced at Carnoustie. Charley Hoffman and Cameron Smith are two of a handful of players who put the T Grind in play at The Open.

The 60°T Grind is a great low-bounce option for players with a shallow attack angle playing in firm conditions. This dual-bounce sole features narrow, forward bounce to help with square-face shots and trailing edge relief to help create a gliding sensation. Similar to the L Grind, the T Grind is a low-bounce option; however, the T Grind’s dual-bounce sole allows the wedge to sit closer to the ground, making it easier to get the leading edge under the ball and promoting lift.

QUOTING VOKEY TOUR REP AARON DILL: “When we arrived at Carnoustie and saw how firm and fast the course was playing, it was clear that the T Grind was going to be a great option. Bob crafted the T Grind to have low bounce that can be easily manipulated while keeping the leading edge close to the turf. It really excels when faced with those hard, unforgiving lies.”

ULTRA-PREMIUM SLATE BLUE FINISH: The limited edition 60°T Grind features a brand new, ultra-premium Slate Blue finish. As durable as Tour Chrome, the Slate Blue finish features a mirror polish with hints of blue and gray.

CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS: As part of WedgeWorks, Limited 60°T Grinds can be customized, including personalized stamping in up to 10 characters and one of 12 paintfill colors. Golfers can also choose from an industry-leading selection of shafts, grips, shaft bands, toe engravings and ferrules

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: Vokey WedgeWorks Limited 60°T Grind wedges are available beginning Sept. 5 through WedgeWorks on Vokey.com or by custom order, starting at $250.
