For 30 years the Big Bertha brand name from Callaway Golf has struck a positive chord with golfers but the most recent driver using the name was the Great Big Bertha in 2017. Now, extending what has become a franchise marketing tool, Big Bertha is back with the Big Bertha B-21 family which is billed by Callaway as being both easy to hit and very forgiving.

Looking specifically at the B-21 driver the weighting is biased for high launch but with low spin in order to produce the best distance and there is a significant amount of weight placed towards the heel to help straighten out the most common swing error, a left to right slice. Callaway’s engineers used the company’s supercomputer programmed to take advantage of machine learning and artificial intelligence to design the clubface with the goal of retaining high ball speeds over a large area. The Big Bertha B-21 face is backed with the now familiar Jailbreak rods tying the carbon fiber crown to the sole which concentrates energy on the face rather wasting it by allowing the crown to excessively bulge at impact.

The same easy-to-hit philosophy using the supercomputer was employed in the Big Bertha fairway woods, hybrids, and irons. The company also noted this is the first time an A.I.-designed face cup has been used in a Big Bertha iron.
