TPC Sugarloaf Honored With Golf Inc.’s Renovation of the Year

ATLANTA, Georgia — TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia is celebrating earning the coveted first place in the private club category of Golf Inc. Magazine’s “Renovation of the Year” award, designed to recognize the most outstanding golf course renovations and restorations completed this past year. Judging was base on a combination of 3 factors achievement of goals(50% of score), improved playability and maintainability(25% of score), and course aesthetics(25% of score).

The prestigious award recognizes the outstanding work done by Greg Norman Golf Course Design(GNGCD) on the completion of TPC Sugarloaf’s three-year $15 million enhancement project, encompassing renovations to the golf courses, clubhouse, and lifestyle center with a goal of modernizing the amenities and enriching member experiences. Also integral to the renovation project was Senior Designer for PGA TOUR Design and Construction Services, Milan Moore, who has been with the TOUR fro 15 years. Moore oversaw the day to day construction, working hand in hand with the Norman team.

The property features three nine-hole courses, all designed by GNGCD, including The Stables and The Meadows that opened before the turn of the century, and The Pines opened in 2000. The courses saw extensive updates including resurfaced greens, tees, fairways, rebuilt bunkers, a state-of-the-art irrigation system for better coverage, as well as new and resurfaced cart paths.

“Golf Inc.’s annual awards hold such high-esteem, so to be recognized with their highest honor is a privilege and a testament to the incredible work done by the design team, everyone at TPC Sugarloaf and Milan Moore,” said Greg Norman. “I am always grateful to be able to return to my original designs and have the opportunity to restore them, so this award is truly the icing on the cake.”

The updates will allow the course to be challenging for the PGA TOUR Champions players when they come back in 2021 to play the Mitsubishi Electric Classic which was canceled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Recreational players and members will find it approachable when they play from appropriate tees.

“Earning this recognition by Golf Inc. is a tremendous honor and one we’re thrilled to celebrate,” said Mike Mahoney, General Manager of TPC Sugarloaf. “We could not have executed this large-scale project without the help of Greg Norman and his design team and excited their work  has been commended.”

With intentions to further improve the golf experience, TPC Sugarloaf also made major updates to the Clubhouse, with a significant expansion of  the restaurant, RYE Kitchen & Bar, and an addition of a covered outdoor patio overlooking the 18th green.

Located in the beautiful Georgia countryside northwest of Atlanta, TPC Sugarloaf is a brilliantly crafted 27-hole championship golf course offering a wide array of amenities and privileges that have become synonymous with the PGA TOUR’s acclaimed TPC Network of 27 premier clubs celebrating its 40th Anniversary. The Stables and The Meadows nine-hole designs reach 7,259 yards and play to a par 72. The three courses crafted by Greg Norman fit harmoniously with its natural surroundings on the site of the former Rollins Farm.

Named by Golf Digest among the “Best New Private Clubs in the U.S.” when it debuted in 1997 and by Golfweek among the “Top 100 Best Residential Golf Courses for 2007-2008,” the layout boasts tree-line Zeon Zoysia fairways with a great mix of streams, lakes and rolling hills.
